French Fries: Negative 70 pesos

We’ve found that service at restaurants, grocery stores, and even airports is very good in Asia. Our evening meal tonight is a good illustration.
We walked into the restaurant and were immediately greeted by two servers. They showed us to our seats and pulled them out for all three of us, not just for the ladies. Both servers dutifully stood by as we looked over the menu, until we told them we just needed a few minutes to decide. They hovered in the background, watching carefully until they recognized we were ready and quickly came over. Two more servers joined them for a total of four to take our order—this way they could get everything started as quickly as possible.
While we waited for the food to arrive, they gave us each two coupons—one for a free iced or hot coffee and one for 100 Philippine pesos discount off of an order of P300 or more. When we finished eating, we received the bill: two iced coffees, two tuna salads (think sashimi, not Starkist), one Filipino set meal, one sprite = P250 (about $6.25). The cashier apologized that we wouldn’t be able to use the food coupon and suggested we order French fries to reach the P300 mark. She was so insistent that we felt we had to give in! The bill (version 2.0) totaled P180 (about $4.50). I’ve never seen a business work so hard to save the customer money! Next time you're in Davao, make sure to visit Sasayan Cafe.
